This was shot in late summer at Gerswalde, a small village 70km or so outside of Berlin. Thorsten and I were staying for a short while at the Großer Garten, visiting our friend Russell who was doing a residency.
In this short film I use a reproduction of a Roman strigil, which was used as a scraping device when performing an oil bath, which was a standard offer in most Roman bathhouses. The oil used was traditionally a mixture of olive oil and ashes for exfoliation; I kept to this tradition.
The concept and filming was directly inspired by Derek Jarman's masterpiece film "Sebastiane."
